Breeding - SCRI
Taypack are in the fourth year of a fully targeted programme in partnership with the Scottish Crop Research Institute (SCRI), www.scri.ac.uk, and its commercial subsidiary, Mylnefield Research Services Ltd (MRS), www.mrsltd.com, based in Dundee, to breed new varieties of potatoes for the fresh and baking markets that suit the Scottish environment.
SCRI use parents from their extensive collection of wild and cultivated potatoes to introduce resistance to late blight, powdery scab and potato cyst nematode. The aim is to reduce the amount of chemicals required to combat disease and enhance the environmental sustainability of crops.
