Potato Varieties

A salad crop will have large numbers of tubers that are from 20 to 45mm in diameter. These varieties include Nicola, Charlotte, Maris Peer and Carlingford.

Varieties of potatoesUnder 45mm tubers will be used for 1.5kg Smalls.

45 to 70mm tubers will be used for 2.5kg and 5kg Whites.

70mm plus tubers will be used for Baking Potatoes. The aim is to maximise the baking potato content in varieties such as Cara, Cultra, Estima, Nadine, Marfona, Merlin, Saxon and Sante that are used for generic white potatoes.

Many of these varieties are characterised by red eyes. This is a feature of breeding and is best known as the pink blush on the King Edward variety.
